Back in October, Fashion Police had to change their name to LAVAL due to legal issues. I feel as if the change was for the best: I don’t like to associate names with sounds, but LAVAL does fit a whole lot better.
The music here is dirty. Dirty as FUCK! It’s beautiful. There is a kind of wall of sound that this four-piece creates. Everything sounds to be a harmony of something else. Sometimes that harmony is bang on. Sometimes that harmony is intentionally very off.
The drums are very interesting. They add to this almost military atmosphere that isn’t there. The snare just accents the points of interest and it is turned very high in the mix, but never feels intrusive.
As much as this album is very chaotic, it feels almost soothing in the rhythmic ideals that it carries. Very much worth checking out. I do not have a comparison on the ready for this one.
