Year in Review: Jay’s “Most Listened” in 2015

Jay's Picks

I was initially going to do a top albums for the year, but I quickly realized that much of my top listened to anything is from at least the last two or three years. So, here we are. The way this list works is that I have listened to the collections on this list way more often this year than anyone should listen to anything. I am not going to delve too far into albums I have already written a review on. Instead, just a quick recap of why they are here and why you should pay attention to them.

Contortionist || Language
2014
This band should have been shown to me earlier. Similar to Tool, which is very close to my favourite band. This is a beautiful album.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: EBB AND FLOW

††† (Crosses) || Crosses
2014
This collection of music is brought to you from the vocalist from Deftones and two other people. It is pleasant: poppy in some ways, and very metal in others. I do prefer the project Team Sleep, but this is a welcome departure from the norm.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: OPTION

CHON || GROW
2015
This has to be on the list. Chon is a four-piece band from California. People should not be this talented, ever. They have a way of being beautiful, but still mind blowing.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: KNOT

NEW DESIGN || FAR FROM HOME
2015
The album that caught me the most off guard: it’s rare that a band, which can only be described as emo, attracts me this fully. Absolutely beautiful, absolutely haunting, absolutely amazing. Read my full thoughts here.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: THERE IS NO SAFE PLACE

PLUUM || PLUUM
2015
There is something beautiful yet brutal about this release. It is only three tracks, but they are amazing. I reviewed this one a while ago.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: MONDAY

MAD TAPPER || DEAD LIVING
2015
So good. So brutal. So Much Love. Review Here.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: 1/3

HEART & HARM || DAMAGE
2015
This album actually surprised me to no end. I find myself months later still enjoying it as much as I did when I reviewed it.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: SOLACE

KENNEDY || THE GUILTY POOR
2015
I actually tried to not love this album as much as I have. It is just really well put together. I stand by my review.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: STILLBORN BELIEVER
(I feel dirty pointing you towards the first track, but it perfectly defines the whole album)

SLENDER LORIS || WORLD TOUR
2013
It is far too bad that this group disbanded. This album is by far one of the greatest collection of beautiful noise and jarring dissonance that has ever been created.I got the privilege to play a show with these lads back in 2013 around the drop of this album. They play acoustic instruments, which I found very awesome. The general format of the songs is genuinely random and strangely beautiful. As I listen to this album again, I am secured in why they take my number one spot. This album is just absolutely amazing in every way.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: Chemtrails
